Day 134

Chocolate Torte
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
This cake was so yummy!! I have been dying to make it, and finally had the excuse for a co-worker's going away party today.

I have been doing some contemplating. I started my Photo a Day project to become a better photographer. I have found myself, over the last couple weeks, just taking a picture to say that I had my picture for the day. This is not really what I had in mind when I started this project. I think a lot of it is because I have been trying to figure out what "kind" of photographer (I use that term lightly) I want to be. I am inspired by the street photography of Lab2112 and Moonwire But it is difficult here in Utah to find interesting things happening on the streets. I love the self portraits of Officially A Mom.and Marvelous Momma but I lack the skills, creativity, and photoshop abilities. So I've been thinking - I need to decide what I want to really become good at - not just follow through with the motions to say that I have. So here it is - I love food. I love making it, I love looking at it, and I love eating it. I could spend all day looking online for recipes or reading cookbooks. I was inspired by Meeta who is a great food photographer. She also has a food blog, which I quickly found out that food blogging is quite popular. So I think this is the direction I am going to go in for now. It will give me an excuse to cook more, and this way I can be passionate about two things at one. And hopefully I will learn a few things instead of just skating along. You can see my new food blog (including the recipe for this cake at Every Day Food from a Working Woman.

I'll still be taking other pictures on days I don't cook, I will be concentrating my photos on food.

Day 133

Surviving
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
Most of the snow has melted from yesterday's storm, but it is still pretty cold outside (43F right now). I was glad to see the first of my tulips starting to bloom. Being a first time flower grow-er, I was afraid that this cold would kill them all, but they are surviving!!

Day 130

Spring Has Sprung
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
Some more of my flowers bloomed over the weekend. This is so exciting for me, as this is the first actual house we have owned, and I planted these flowers last fall, excited for the Springtime. I don't remember what kind they are, but I am really excited for when all of the tulips start blooming. My yard is going to be full of color!

Day 128

Blossoms
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
Oops, I missed my first 365 photo. No photo for yesterday. I was super stressed out, and taking a picture was the last thing on my mind. I wasn't sure if I should label this as day 128, or skip 128 and call it 129, but I decided on just skipping the day and sticking with the number.

Beautiful blossoms that I stopped to take pictures of today. What a beautiful Spring day!!

Day 127

Garbage Day
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
Pathetic - I had to make myself a sign to remember to take the garbage out because we forgot last week. How do two people create this much trash???

I had a much better picture in mind for today, but it was not cooperating with me and I didn't have the time or the patience. Maybe this weekend.....

Day 126

Bedtime
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
So, this is my new bedtime! Yeah, 8:53 and going to bed. My husband has a new work schedule and has to be to work at 5am, which means he wakes up at 4:15, which means I wake up at 4:15!! That is way too early in the morning. I was waking up at 5am before, but for some reason, that 15 minutes really makes a difference!

Day 125

Daffodil
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
I am in such a good mood today. It really feels like Springtime. I know I just barely did a photo of the daffodils in my yard, but they bring a smile to my face everyday when I get home. I need to plant some in the front yard for next year!

Day 124

Vegetables and Dill Dip
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
I just got home from a very delicious dinner!! We were celebrating my father-in-laws birthday, so my husband and I made dinner. My husband grilled the best burgers I have ever had, and I made a veggie tray and potato salad. I don't think I need to eat for the rest of the week!!

Day 123

Preparations
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
What a busy day!! I woke up, went to the gym, went to the post office, stopped at Costco, cleaned the house, did the laundry, worked for 4 hours, went to the grocery store, prepared some dinner items for a bbq at my in-laws on Sunday, and then re-cleaned the kitchen. I was dead tired by the time I sat down. A very busy, but productive day!

Day 122

Driving Sunset
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
This is really bad, because I didn't realize that I hadn't taken a picture for the day until I was on my drive home from my sister's house. There was an amazing sunset, but every time I would pull off the freeway to take a picture of it, I couldn't see it as well (the freeway was always in the way.) I would have pulled off the side of the freeway, but I was going the wrong way, and cars would have been in my way. So I tried to do it while I was driving - not very smart when you are going down the freeway at 70mph. At least I got a picture for the day, I guess!!

Day 119

Backyard Fun
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
It was too nice outside today. I had to take a break from my "to-do" list to play in the yard with Max while my husband bbq-ed dinner.

I have been feeling really overwhelmed today. There's just too much to do, and not enough time to do it. I don't know how people with kids do it. But I'm glad I took the time to sit in the yard, playing with my puppy, talking with my husband. These are the important things in life. Cleaning the bathroom can wait until tomorrow....

The Best Cookies

I have an idea for the Girl Scouts, so if anyone knows anyone of authority in the organization, feel free to mention my idea. After Girl Scout Cookie season, they really should start selling exercise equipment. I swear, I can't stop eating these cookies!!!

Day 117

Last of Winter
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
I took Max for a drive today to get him out of the house for a bit. I figured it would be good to go and search for a photo opportunity since I hadn't done much the last 2 days with my pictures. I had intended on going to this place that I have driven past before that looks like a carnival cemetery. Yeah, kind of creepy, but it's a bunch of old, rusted carnival rides and equipment, and I thought it would make an interesting picture. Well, to my dismay, there wasn't much there. Just mostly some trucks - not exactly what I had in mind. So I had to find something else. I actually took some pictures of the mountains that would have turned out quite nicely, but I forgot I had been playing with the white balance on my camera, and so the mountains now look really blue. At least I remembered to fix it for this picture!

Day 116

I apologize ahead of time for my very un-creative shots for Friday and Saturday. I have been very busy with other things, and my pictures definitely took the back burner.

Max loves to be involved in everything. Sometimes it is difficult to get anything done, because he wants to be in the spotlight!

I have been trying to upload all of my music to my home computer since I have been working here more. It is quite a lengthy process, but it sure is nice to have all of my music to listen to!

Day 114

Looking Up
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
I have to thank the DMV - I know, who thanks the DMV?? I had to get my car registration renewed (only a month late!!!) and I had been dreading going down to do it. Doesn't the DMV have the reputation of being really slow? Well, I went in, and no more than 5 minutes later, I was out the door with new registration. $150 dollars poorer, but my car is now legal again. I was so excited, because I had enough time left in my lunch break to walk around Provo and photograph some of the buildings. I had forgotten how interesting they were! It was the best lunch break I have had in quite some time.

A very hard subject to shoot, though - whenever I get out the camera, he turns around and won't hardly let me see his face! I'm glad I got a few out of the many I took.

Pair
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
Today's photo serves many purposes. I was thinking of what I wanted to do today, and realized I didn't do my self-portrait of the week last week (so I will have to cheat and do 2 this week.) I was also looking through The World Through My Eyes, and saw the Monday Theme was pairs. This was the first thing that popped into my mind. After taking lots of shots, I ended up going with the first shot I took and processing it kind of funky. I actually like how it turned out.

Banana Crumb Muffins
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
Yummy!! I had some bananas that needed to be used, and since I was babysitting, I thought my nieces would enjoy some muffins for breakfast. This is my favorite alternate to banana bread. The crumb topping totally makes them.

Day 109

View

I'm glad it was almost a full moon so I had some light. I absolutely love nature, but there is also something to be said for things created by man. I love the look of the twinkling lights (or fairy lights, as my niece calls them.) It almost feels magical.

Day 108

Moon Over Mountains
Originally uploaded by Deborah Harroun.
I stayed at my sister's house this past weekend to watch her kids, and she has an AMAZING view of the mountains and valley from her house. I tried to capture it - but this is something you have to experience to get the whole effect. I will have to upload other pictures tonight when I have more time.

Day 107

I am feeling very uninspired today. My battery is just about dead, and I didn't have the motivation to brave the cold outside. So you get my un-finished kitchen cabinet. These things are driving me crazy. Everything is buried and there is no organization. Hopefully we will be finishing these soon - at least putting the shelves in. I have gotten quotes for the cabinet doors (ouch!!) but we are going to build the shelves ourselves.
